Gareth has worked as a Design and Technology Teacher for 17 years.
He has extensive experience of teaching and taking the lead on a wide range of practical subjects., working with learners across the ability range on a variety of specifications in KS3, KS4 and KS5.
Gareth initially trained as a teacher in the University of Wales, Bangor, completing the Design and Technology BSc (Hons) course, whilst achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the same university. From an early stage in his career he has had experience of leading and managing STEM education.
Gareth is accomplished in Subject Leadership, Faculty Leadership and whole school STEM co-ordination.
A source of immense pride, Gareth’s department has secured great success and several awards in many STEM competitions as they support learners to go above and beyond in STEM initiatives at Local, Regional, National and World Final levels. Which has enriched both Gareth’s and his students understanding of the opportunities available within STEM.
Whilst supporting the development of STEM initiatives in his own centre, Gareth has accrued several years’ experience in the assessment of Design and Technology.
A veteran moderator, assessor and examiner for examined qualifications, plus a judge of STEM competitions. He has worked with a wide range of stakeholders with the shared vision of promoting STEM career paths and developed strong links with a multiplicity of organisations
I am passionate about STEM and have seen first-hand how STEM projects can provide outstanding opportunities for young people.
I am generally interested in Design, Technology and Engineering and enjoy pastimes in these areas, as well as working in this context.
I am a strong advocate for STEM and the STEM Projects vision and aims closely align with my own.
As a keen sea fisherman and living on the coast of North Wales my dream project would be one linked to Marine Design, or Engineering and Environmental Engineering in coastal areas.
One of my own hobbies is to use my own small fishing boat and I am surprised by how few STEM opportunities for schools are linked to the Marine sector.
