Ravina has worked as a Science teacher for 14 years and a Maths teacher for 10 years.
She has an in-depth understanding of the current KS4 and KS3 specifications and have experience in helping pupils in different settings.
These range from inner city schools where pupils need a lot of motivation to engage in their learning, to an independent schools where the curriculum needs to be more challenging to allow young people to reach their potential.
She is currently completing a Masters of Arts in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education from The School of Education, Communication and Society, at King's College London.
The aim of this Masters (MA) for Ravina is to help build a science curriculum that promotes social justice by providing an equitable education; an approach that advocates differential treatment according to need of pupils, while also recognising and valuing differences between them. With the hope that young people will feel that they can engage in the STEM subjects (science, mathematics and ICT) thus encouraging them to enter STEM related careers.
She would like to use the ideas that gained on the MA to increase pupils’ scientific literacy skills and contextualise their learning to incorporate real world issues, with the hope that it increase their understanding of the world and their part to play as active and concerned citizens.
My interests are to improve science capital to allow for equitable engagement.
I believe that STEM projects would be an excellent way to get pupils to realise their talents and help them to form their STEM identities.
Community engagement with Environmental sustainability.
This will provide a much more inclusive project where more people will realise that they do have STEM capital and it is achievable.
