Background

Current Role: Founder, Hybrid Games

Holly describes herself as a dyslexic STEM Education games consultant, inventor and founder of Hybrid Games.

She’s passionate about helping students with learning difficulties excel in STEM and not have to struggle the way she did at school.

Hybrid Games offers engaging workshops to hundreds of young people, utilising Board and Card Games to communicate the fundamental ideas of Science to young people. Their Science through Play approach helps young people become engaged with STEM beyond their classrooms.

What made you join The STEM Project?

The STEM project is the missing link between the incredible freelancers in STEM, and those in businesses and institutions who need us but can’t find us in the saturated world of Science Communication.

What would be your dream project and why?

It would be a dream to create a game for an exhibition, a museum or a show. I grew up visiting science centres and museums, playing with the interactive exhibits and joining in with workshops.

I love to work with educational teams at museums or institutions who want my input into creating STEM game engagement.

I’m also very passionate about my own neurodiversity and want to link projects in with that to help the wider community who don’t see themselves represented and get ‘shut out’ of in STEM.

Hybrid Games

Hybrid Games use board games to inspire thousands of young people through customisable workshops (ranging from 30minute to 5- hour sessions) suitable for every educational setting. Every game can be played with a variety of different ages and is supported by  DBS checked passionate educators.

Holly and her team follow the UK’s National Science curriculum (KS2 - A-Level) in all their workshops.

 Why Board Games?

  1. Board and card games provide a hands-on learning experience particularly suited for those with additional learning needs.
  2. In the age of digital, Board games are a way for young people to enjoy gaming without a screen!
  3. They create a fun, competitive environment in a low-risk setting
  4. Board games provide dynamic, critical thinking abilities and contribute to children’s communication skills
  5. They promote experiential learning in leadership, teamwork, and time management
