Background

 Headquartered in the UK, Meggitt PLC is an international FTSE-listed engineering group with a workforce of over 11,200 people in facilities across Asia, Europe and the Americas. 

 

The Meggitt group’s history can be traced back to the mid-19th century, when their corporate ancestors were known for pioneering aviation instruments for hot air balloons, including the world’s first altimeter.


Their technical excellence, market knowledge and relationships with the world’s leading aerospace companies are therefore as old as aviation itself, a critical factor in an industry where new technology and suppliers have to work very hard for acceptance.



Project Objective

Working with the Chair woman of Meggitt's STEM committee, to create a delivery method to support their STEM Blue Chips:

  • Internal and external STEM Presence
  • Activity Development
  • Membership engagement.


Project Delivery

 Over the course of two months, The STEM Project worked with Meggitt through virtual conferencing.


Topics discussed :

  • Objective - Enhancing on the company's STEM Blue Chips
  • Alignment -  UK wide engagement both internally and externally for their STEM Ambassadors (with potential for US adoption in 2022)
  • Discussion -  Creation of a UK framework model to support all areas of STEM for Meggitt
  • Activities - Opportunities to enhance / develop going forward.
  • Budget - Keeping within budgetary parameters to support the project development 


After speaking with the STEM Chair at Meggitt on her vision and ambitions for the programme, The STEM Project, provided a structured framework in which Meggitt at the start of the new academic year, in which the team could work from to enhance their activity in;


 STEM

  • Support for STEM Ambassadors; Skills, Training and Inductions.
  • Engagement; In exhibitions and events to support STEM, in particular engineering.
  • Early Careers; Opportunities to develop and enhance career style workshops and an engaging and impactful work experience programme
  • Content Development: For current and future STEAM Workshops, aligned to Meggitt's products and solutions.


Partnerships

  • A research backed review on key partners to work with to support in STEM / Early Careers and Industry


Communication

  • A comprehensive breakdown of tasks and activities to support communication and engagement internally  to support the STEM agenda throughout Meggitt and externally as a innovative though leader in the space of STEM.
